Window Film Maintenance and Care

The wonderful thing about window tinting (outsides all of its benefits) is that it requires very little maintenance. With just a bit of care, you should be able to enjoy the UV protection, glare reduction, security, for a long time. But, there are a couple of things you should know about how to maintain and clean your new window tinting to keep it looking nice and being effective.

Immediately After Window Film Installation

You May See a Slight Haze: Sometimes window film may appear slightly hazy immediately after installation, although it doesn’t happen very often. This fogginess is due to a little moisture left under the film. This is normal and should disappear after a few days depending on the humidity levels where you live. 

You May See Tiny Bubbles: Immediately after installation, liquid trapped behind the window film sometimes creates small water bubbles. This is normal  and the important thing is that you do not pierce any of these water bubbles and leave the film alone until the full 30-day cure.

Allow the Window Film to Cure: After window tinting is applied to your windows it will not be fully dry. You should not clean the film for 30 days and touch the window as little as possible, if at all. This gives time for the adhesives to set which adds up to a long life for your window tinting.

Throughout the Life of Your Window Film

Cleaning Your Window Film: After your window film is fully cured (30 days after installation) you can begin cleaning it. Cleaning is very simple. Use an ammonia-free solution, such as Sprayway Glass Cleaner or gentle dish soap and water. Always use soft cloths to clean your window film and be cautious of using paper towels. This is because most paper towels are actually abrasive and although you may not see the damage right away–over time they will dull the finish of window film via micro-scratches.

Polishing Window Film: This step is not needed to extend the life of your film but may improve the luster when done from time to time. On interior films, you can use a silicone-based polish to give a shiny new appearance. This will also keep some unexpected scratching or burnishing from occurring. Suggested silicone products are Plexus Plastic and Cleaner Solar Majik.
